This was our first time at Al’s and we had heard so many wonderful stories of the place and it did not disappoint. This is a St. Louis landmark. Almost 100 years old. The old school service and decor made for a memorable evening. The escargot, steaks and Bananas Foster were all delicious. This is a great place for a special event. We will be back!

I didn’t go to eat this time. I just went and had a quick drink at the very awesome bar with my new buddy Gary. Reservation still needed. This is a reservation only spot. I love it. Almost 100 years old. Such an institution.

We were the only 2 people in the entire place from 5:30-7:40pm; a lonely dining experience except for the waiter that barely left our table. He share historical info about the place almost the entire meal, leaving little opportunity for romantic banter with my date. My strip stake had good flavor but was so tough I felt like I might choke trying to swallow it. The wine selection was limited and in my opinion low quality wines. The cooked carrots were great and so was the Caesar salad but for $440, this is not a restaurant I will try again.

This restaurant should NOT have these negative reviews. There's truly a miscommunication. Know before you go... Al's is a historic gem that we need to appreciate in our community. Al's is not for everyone. It can't be changed inside or outside because it's on the STL Historic Landmark list so it is old, dark and nostalgic. There is NO menu. The servers explain what is available for courses 1-6. This is a table side, fine dining, top of the line food restaurant. It is expensive. Men must wear a jacket. It's old school. The servers have been there 40 plus year Al's opened in 1925 so it's almost 100 years old! There are 130 historic landmarks in St. Louis. The Eads Bridge is #1 and Al's restaurant is #130. Frank Sinatra had his own table. Henry Fonda had a table. The list goes on. This spot is right on the riverfront and frequented by passengers via the river before the use of highways. Al's is the only restaurant to ever win an Emmy Award under the documentary category. It's the oldest family owned restaurant in the same location in STL. It's in its 3rd and 4th generation of ownership. I had the Table aside Caesar, Chilean Seabass, Al’s Potatoes and Broccoli! All was delicious. #stlouispescatarianapproved Stop in and see my new buddy Gary. He's a peach.

Thank you for the kind words and ratings. We truly appreciate the opportunity to provide guests with more than just excellent food and service, by providing an outstanding fine-dining experience with the lost art of tableside service. So many guests are also interested in the stories and history of Al's; it looks like your server shared a few. Your business is very much appreciated and we hope to serve you again as we begin our countdown to our 100th anniversary.

A once great place that is clearly dying…it’s time to let it go. Nice looking bar, but it was closed because they have no bartender on a Thursday night. They will brag about all the famous guests from decades ago, but are currently only staffed to serve 10 guests a night…so expect a completely dead dining room. Prices seem about what you expect for fine dining, until you see how tiny the potions are and will likely want to order two entrees, which brings the price up to around $150 a person just for food. To top off the evening, the manager had the gal to claim they are the only true fine dining experience in the entire state of Missouri, lucky us 😂

Thank you great food & ambiance ratings, & expressing your opinion. With the added time & attention of tableside service, reservations are staggered & kept to certain counts for each server to give the attention & experience guests deserve. We are not a "turn the table over" restaurant; the table is yours for the evening. You shared with your server your food was outstanding. Our portion sizes have always been generous and align with portions at other fine dining restaurants. Like most of our guests, you were able to take home a “doggie bag” to enjoy later. We can't always accommodate bar service before dinner, but encourage guests to enjoy our unique bar for drinks afterward. We know the dining scene in Houston is quite different than St. Louis, and we did appreciate your business.

Arrived at 6 o’clock our reservations at 6:15. The door was locked. We run the doorbell, which we thought was strange. No cars in the parking lot only two cars in the back. 615. The door was unlocked. Only 2 people in the restaurant. Strangest experience I have ever experience. Food was not good. I would not recommend. Over priced. $411 for 2 The wine was old !!!
