Asere is Fine Cuban & Puerto Rican Cuisine! Taken from the best influences of Spanish, African, French and Caribbean flavors. Here, the old and the new Cuba come to life! The elegance of the Caribbean's Paris of the 50's (as Cuba was known) is showcased in a variety of elegant delights, while the local flavors of today's Cuba come to life with authentic recipes from the underground world of home-based restaurants in the island. Asere is located in front of one of the most flavorful Farmer's Markets in PR, Santurce's La Placita. The old Spanish architecture gives life to a 2 story building designed in detail to let you live the experience of visiting the legendary Cuba of the 50's and the hidden world of today's Cuban underground fine-dinning culture. Asere in Cuban slang means "my friend!!!", so come around to La Placita in Santurce and experience the best in Cuban cuisine, Asere!

We have been to Asere multiple times. Each time prior to this last visit was exemplary in all aspects. This time was so different. The decor has been been significantly altered to the extent it looked cheap. I tried to order a Barrilito con coco, a local revered rum and coconut water. Server came back and they were out of it. The bartender recommended a brand I had never heard of. I took a chance on said recommendation and it failed miserably. The drink that came back didn’t even taste of rum. I tried to order a canoa and they were out of picadillo. What self respecting Cuban restaurant is EVER out of picadillo??? We left completely turned off at the experience. It will no longer be the retinue of restaurants we want to go to when we visit San Juan.

Nope. Nope. This place is BS. Bunch of liars Ok. Someone needs to explain this to me. I made a reservation through OpenTable. I confirmed the day before. I show up for dinner with my family and guess what? They have no reservation for me. I show them my email confirmation and still nothing. They say to me that OpenTable is wrong. Hmmm, really? A second person comes out to confirm they don’t have the reservation. I call BS. See the photo of the reservation. How do you say I don’t have a reservation when I show you my OpenTable account with the confirmation? All I can say is they are complete losers. So, we left, went around the corner where there are dozens of restaurants and had a great meal at El Rincon. So, take a chance if you want and deal with a bunch of liars or move along to one of the other restaurants in La Placita and have a great meal with people who are honest.

Our waitress was amazing. Can’t remember her name but she was working upstairs and had long curly hair…very attentive!

I was really looking forward to celebrating with my husband at Asere restaurant, but our experience left us deeply disappointed. We had a reservation for 7:30 pm, but it was all downhill from there. Our glass of wine and cava were served warm, and the appetizers took an excessively long time to arrive, arriving only slightly warm, as if they had been sitting out. To make matters worse, our main plates were brought out while we were still eating our appetizers. The quality of the main dishes was inconsistent; while some were decent, my salmon was overcooked and had a crispy top layer, indicating it had been left on the heat for too long. Finally, we had to wait an extended period before we could close our ticket and pay. Overall, our date night dinner was very disappointing. For the prices on their menu, Asere needs to significantly improve the experience they provide to their customers. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be visiting again.

Be aware that the menu in the restaurant is not exactly the same as what’s on Open Table. There are many items listed on OT that are not available in the restaurant. This is not that they’ve run out of some items, the OT menu is not up to date. But the portion sizes are quite large so don’t over order! Food taste was good. The location is definitely not in the usual tourist areas in Old San Juan nor Condado so some people may not feel comfortable venturing to the are where Asere is located. It’s really for a more local crowd. Suggest you take an Uber or Lyft to and from.
