Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. Desserts which are freshly made in-house include apple strudel, black forest cake, and luscious cream tortes. The bar offers a selection of imported German beers and wines.

I had eaten here before, but it had been a few years. I brought a group of 5 from out of state for dinner. What a wonderful experience. The waitstaff was wonderful and the service was a 10! Kuddos to the chef! The food was as wonderful as I remember! A definite dining experience you do not want to miss. Can't wait to come back the next time I am in D.C.

Enjoyed our first visit and we’d like to go again someday. We concentrated on sausages this time and want to do schnitzel the next time. The sausages with red cabbage and “German mac and cheese” worked for us, though in hindsight might have substituted potatoes, and could have used a lot more mustard from the get go instead of needing to ask for it. Definitely would order more potato pancakes. House beer was excellent accompaniment.

Sauerbraten for me, trout for my partner. Very good food, great beer and a tasty pretzel. Only minor issue was the strudel’s crust was to thick.

We love this place! Sitting outside and having a beer during October, takes you right back to Germany. The food is legit, prices reasonable, and service top notch, not to mention the beer selection!
