I asked for a quiet table and, as a result, we were seated in a small, pleasant upstairs room. I can't attest to the noise level elsewhere in the restaurant, but we enjoyed wonderful food, excellent service, and the rare ability to have a nice conversation.

Amid a proliferation of places all serving the same "bistro" menus, La Chaumiere stands out for consistently producing credible examples of class French cuisine bourgeois. Dishes not to be found on any other DC restaurant's menus (quenelles, rognons de veau, venison) well executed. Which is why it was crowded on a Monday night. Decent wine list -- mostly above $100. Good service. Can come back to this place time after time to try new dishes beyond the favorites.
