Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. In 1984 they opened Anatoli Souvlaki in north Vancouver. In 2011 their sons Alexi and Iani took over the restaurant and early 2015 they expanded on their parents original dream, in a new venture with their cousin Daniel Bergman, Alexi and Iani opened ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ in Yaletown. ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ focuses on small share plates or “mezze”.

They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. Food was great restaurant seemed understaffed with some very large tables. Which probably made the kitchen slow. The calamari had a weird sauce with it which was a bit unexpected. Seemed like mayo with an addition of lemon. Maybe just stick to tsatziki. I would make that request next time Otherwise was all good and what’s to be expected of a higher end Greek restaurant

The waitress was impatient when we still need time to order. The manager was nice and helpful, giving us suggestions on the choices. The oyster was fine and fresh. The octopus was great! The salmon was very soft.

Elegant but casual, Selene impressed and delighted. Amazing service and food, and the most elevated Greek salad I’ve ever had. I would also drink the mussel broth on its own, it’s that good. Selene deserves all the success, thank you for a lovely evening!
