It was Willie Mae’s at what they do best and they didn’t disappoint. The cup of gumbo was tiny but mighty. We had the 1/2 chicken (leftovers baby!) with the cabbage as the side. The cabbage was a next level experience. I find most local restaurants “Cajun- fy” foods they don’t understand with Tony’s seasoning, but this was none of that. It reminded me of home- grounded in real flavors to enhance - not to cover up. They understood the assignment and succeeded. The chicken was, obviously, fantastic. Crispy yet juicy. We arrived way too early for our reservation and the host and hostess did their best to accommodate us. We happily waited for a preferred table. Great service. I thought my cocktail was a little weak, but that was the only room for improvement. I’m still dreaming of that cabbage. I wish they’d add a veggie platter of all sides. It was too good.

Great service! We were disappointed that Papa Noel did not provide a sussie gift to our daughter as in years past. However, the kitchen was able to accommodate my gluten and dairy intolerance. The substitutions were so tasty!

We were getting in to the city late and decided just to eat dinner in our hotel so we wouldn’t have to find anything. Luckily for us, we picked the right hotel! I of course got the sampler of three different traditional NOLA items: red beans and rice; gumbo; and jambalaya. Perfect way to start our vacation. A few days later we just popped down to the bar lounge for a final beer and dessert and pleasant conversation with the bartender.
