Best Tapas Restaurants in South Side

We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the service was fantastic. Our drinks and food were served promptly, and everything we ordered was delicious. The sangria was a particular highlight, as were the other drinks we tried. We were so pleased with our first visit and are already planning our next one.

12/10 experience! My boyfriend and I come to Mercat every year for our anniversary and our server Jeff made this year truly memorable. He was very informative answering questions about the menu. He made us feel comfortable and taken care of, despite it appearing to be very busy. He was personable and it was very enjoyable to chat with him throughout the evening. The server’s assistants also helped make the night special. We had the Valentine’s Day menu which had 3 courses to it. Each course was delivered accurately in a timely fashion. After each course our silverware was changed and empty plates removed from the table promptly. We love Mercat and we come back every year because we love the food! This Valentines tasting menu absolutely blew us away. Each course was more fantastic than the last. My favorite was the lobster fideua, the bold barbaque peppery flavor of the vegetables and pasta combined with the tender subtle lobster was unparalleled to anything I’ve ever tasted before. My boyfriend deeply enjoyed the imberico tenderloin and brava sauce. The plates not only tasted amazing but they looked visually stunning. We eat with our eyes first, and each time a new course was delivered to the table I was in awe of the culinary craftsmanship of each the dishes. Overall, the entire Mercat ala planxa team goes above and beyond to provide exceptional food and service, guaranteeing a uniquely memorable dining experience every time. I will make it a priority to visit more than on our anniversary. Thank you to the whole team who made this possible. The only thing left I have to say is, how doesn’t this restaurant have a Michelin star yet? I think they deserve 3 at the very least.

AMAZING...I can't say enough about how much i was impressed with this restaurant from the food to the staff it was an amazing experience on my wedding anniversary! Complimentary champagne and dessert was a great touch to a great evening thank you Proxi!!

Great food across the board, a bit expensive, but very, very good (excellent)!

We love Bar Mar and can always count on an exceptional experience. Firstly, it’s beautiful in the restaurant, and there’s not a bad seat in the place. It’s bright, airy, luxurious and so well-designed with intricate and dazzling fixtures. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been delicious, and it’s always played so beautifully. During this visit, we ordered the burger and lobster roll (and split them since they’re both so good). Both were seasoned well and the burger had element such as peppers that provided it with an elevated and different flavor that was so savory and delicious. The lobster roll was well seasoned and cooked to perfection - very tender. Last but certainly not least, the service here is always outstanding. Our server Jefferson was so welcoming, kind and prompt. Jefferson made my sister’s birthday very special! We were surprised with some hamachi cones and key lime pie thanks- both of which were out-of-this-world delicious, and we will be ordering those when we return! Best key lime pie we have ever had! Thank you so much to Jefferson for making our day!
