You don’t need to cross the Pacific to get a taste of Hawaii. Duke’s La Jolla is San Diego’s island-inspired home, honoring the Ambassador of Aloha, Duke Kahanamoku, with coastal cuisine of Hawaii, craft cocktails and a genuine spirit of aloha. It’s the same authentic hospitality and panoramic ocean view that you’ll find at all of the California and Hawaii Duke’s restaurants, paying tribute to the Duke and welcoming you to celebrate life like the legend himself.

Awesome experience. Food was amazing (I had the seafood hot pot and hula pie), ambience was great, and awesome service. We went for our wedding anniversary. Would definitely go again!!

Lovely patio overlooking The Cove. Food and service was terrific plus there was live music - Kai Kalama - who was great. Nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Poor service I ever had. The food quality wasn’t even great after I experienced the bad service.

Host demeanor was rude - suggested we wait at the bar until our table was ready saying someone would come fetch us. No-one fetched us. I had to check back myself to find table was ready. He ordered us upstairs to check in for our table to get seated. Some people should not work with customers he is one of them. As requested they gave us a window table which I appreciated. Banana leaf steamed fish was delicious. OK chowder and salad arrived together not as requested with no silverware. Had to request and wait for that. The bar ran out of Pinot Grigio - how do you do that? Server had too many tables so nice but distracted. Busy busy restaurant where we felt like we were shuttled along their system with limited hospitality and attention to detail. Gorgeous location, ok food, not great service meant not the memorable evening we hoped for. We were happy to leave. A special occasion restaurant that isn’t that special

Dukes has some of the best views in town. It’s one of our favorite Saturday lunch spots. We both had the Ribs & Chicken plate with chicken skewers, rice, Hawaiian macaroni salad and BBQ ribs. It’s so delicious and the rib meat fell off the bones. We ended the meal sharing a slice of Hula (ice cream) pie. It’s huge and so delicious. You can’t go wrong at Dukes!

We frequent all the Duke’s and Hula Grills on the islands over the last 25 years. Was in La Jolla and thought, fun let’s have our favorite Mai tai’s (the mai tai I measure all Mai tai’s to). How disappointing… it looked the same pineapple wedge and umbrella, wasn’t expecting an orchid as we’re not in the islands. 😝did not taste like a yummy Dukes mai tai…. Way off!!! The bar tender re-made. Still off… she mentioned something about the POG mixed differently on occasion. Not good. Should be consistent. My husband ordered the pork ribs n chicken plate. Thinking plate lunch w Mac salad. Disappointment, dry chicken, ribs were meh and Mac salad… kinda blah. My seared ahi dinner was yummy👏👏👏 The waiter and staff were lovely and attentive so our experience with them was excellent. We ate outside, heaters were available. It was nice to dine outside for dinner and not be cold. Definitely need to work on getting the Dukes Mai Tai recipe perfected. May want to take a look at the rib n chicken plate offering as well… Mac salad is a staple and shouldn’t ever taste blah.

Came in for Friday happy hour and really enjoyed the experience. We sat outside. We had a view and could enjoy the live music without it being too loud to have a conversation. Had food from both the happy hour and the dinner menu. Especially enjoyed the Kalbi skewers, the pork lettuce wraps and the coconut shrimp. The service was excellent too. Definitely will be going back.

Not sure what happened today. Had a 1pm reservation but got there early. They couldn’t seat us so we went to the bar. Sat for 17 minutes before anyone came and the bartender went to a couple next to us who sat down after us. We mentioned we were there first and the bartender said she couldn’t keep track of the customers. We ordered a bottle of wine and by the time it came our table was ready. We were told to check out but no one helped move our bucket and bottle so I walked through the restaurant juggling glasses, bucket and bottle. Our waiter was great but my Ahi Bowl was super fishy and I had to return it (I have never in 64 years returned a meal to the kitchen). A bright spot? The view. Spectacular, as always. I think I will choose another ocean view spot next time. Sorry Dukes.
