Housed in a beautifully restored 1912 firehouse, Engine Co. No. 28 located 3 blocks from the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention center has been putting out appetite fires since 1989 with classic American dishes inspired by the regional cooking of firehouses across the country.

The menu features a "signature" Meatloaf, crispy hand-breaded fried chicken, a burger to remember and a great assortment of handmade cocktails, a consistently updated wine list, and a great draft beer selection.

The restaurant is reminiscent of the classic grills of San Francisco and New York - mahogany booths, granite bar, and original brass fire pole with eclectic old filament light bulbs to add to the motif.

Great American café style comfort food. Unfortunately, we were the only customers in the restaurant at 8 PM on a Saturday night. Also, the risotto was too garlicky. Other than that, everything was great.

The server was nice and attentive. No one in the place. We had to ask for our salad twice and got it after half hour. Meal was ok, already forgot it.

They called an hour before our reservation and canceled because a big party bought their space out

Excellent food and a good happy hour- but the owners should hire a second server for week nights or refuse service after so many tables fill up. ONE server for the bar and entire restaurant is not fair to the waitstaff nor the customers. Maybe the weekends have better staffing but we will not be returning on weekdays.

The restaurant took reservation for Thanksgiving, but it was closed. Ruined our Thanksgiving dinner.

The restaurant was closed when we arrived. I don't think you should be able to place a reservation for a restaurant that is not open. I have been there before and it was very good. We were disappointed.

The air conditioning was not working that day - it was during a week of triple digit weather so the food and ambience and service were great! But it was becoming a bit uncomfortable. Will call before arriving next time to ensure the air is on and working!
