Inspired by Italy’s aperitivo hour, when public squares and streets are filled with lively conversation, Portico serves handmade and authentic Italian fare in Sebastopol in western Sonoma County.A portico is a colonnade or covered walkway in classical architecture. Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz. The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Excellent Italian wines are sold in the restaurant at retail pricing; refreshingly unpretentious. The menu features an array of antipasti, handmade egg pasta, gluten free risottos, Bolognese lasagna, tiramisu, and baked goods . A market in the front is stocked with take-n-bake entrees

Updated Italian-American “red sauce” cuisine meets the freshest local ingredients in this family-friendly neighborhood gem. Dinner, lunch, and weekend brunch are served on the year-round garden patio or in the lively dining room with its mix of cozy booths and banquettes. A love letter to the owner’s Brooklyn-born and raised Nonna, Campanella’s menu is classic East Coast Italian with some modern touches. Think New York-style pizza topped with Chicken Parm or “Mac & Peas” with house-made cavatelli. Vegetarian, gluten and dairy-free options, too. Full bar with craft and classic cocktails, local and Italian wines, and beers. The whole family will feel like they’re in the warm embrace of their hip grandma.

We went to celebrate my partners birthday. The remodel of the outdoor seating was spectacular. We sat in a corner booth, comfortable cushions and lovely warm overhead heater!! The food was spectacular and exceeded expectations. The cheese ravioli with red sauce yummy, root vegetable lasagna fabulous and the clam linguini best we have ever tasted. The gem salad was the best salad we have ever had!!! We loved very thing and the starter of knot bread was chewy and full of garlic and had amazing dipping sauce sauce. The colors, texture and delicious flavors along with fresh ingredients made the food spectacular. 91 y/o momma loved house made Italian soda and we loved the house cocktails very yummy. The perfect spot for a fabulous birthday dinner.

This was my mother in laws third time eating at Portico on this visit! She absolutely loves it (and so do we!). Last night we had Burrata to start and a beer chèvre salad. They comped us some extra bread and olive oil/balsamic for dipping and we didn’t even ask. (grandma is now a frequent flyer so that may help lol!). Entrees were outstanding as my daughter and I split a Margueritta pizza and vegetarian Lasagna. My wife got the eggplant parmigiana and split that with her mom along with gnocchis which are to die for. My other daughter got vegetable risotto and her boyfriend was with us and he got the cream and saffron with pannicetta (he’s the only meat eater among us). What a great meal and we will definitely be back!
