Our restaurant and pizzeria Maestrale it's the wind that brings good and bad weather in the Italian peninsula. Our small family owned place is open for dinner six days a week. Our dishes originally are from Puglia in south Italy: la puccia, focaccia, mozzarella, orecchiette, panzerotti and the sea food dishes, the famous Pugliese olive oil as well as the fine selection of wine are a must! Based on reviews and having to book more than a week in advance, we accepted an early reservation and are so glad we did. I consider La Violetta to be in the top three restaurants in Sarasota after dining there just this one time. Exceptional dishes for us were the ravioli osso buco and the sardine appetizer. Our server Frederico was exceptional. We'll be back.

The food was excellent and the waiters were friendly and helpful. However, they were seriously understaffed and that caused several problems with the service. Just one of the problems was that after waiting 25-30 minutes for dessert, the waiter told us he had forgotten it. And it was difficult to get anyone’s attention.
