Take a seat at our signature French-inspired bistro, Couvant, housed in the former Peychaud Cocktail Bitters factory. Here, French techniques (think pain perdu for breakfast and cochon de lait for dinner) play on the roots of New Orleans cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. New Orleans is renowned for its French cuisine, and you won’t have to leave the confines of The Eliza Jane to enjoy delicious fare within a French bistro. Couvant specializes in classic French cooking serving entrees that pay homage to French history and regional specialties. Never pretentious, the dishes and service at Couvant are purposefully simple and social. Nestle into an intimate dining room banquette. In the late 1800’s, Royal Street was home to a famous “curio” shop, a place where curiosities from all over the world could be had for a dollar or two. Today, the shop is no more, but the feeling of excitement and wonder still exists on Royal Street today. And so in the heart of the most premier art district in New Orleans, we’re bringing back the curiosity – reintroducing New Orleans to a circus of flavor so vibrant it makes other restaurants nearby pale in comparison.

All of the savory dishes, gumbo, boudin, BBQ shrimp and grits were excellent. The praline bread pudding might have been the highlight alongside the boudin.

I had been to Brennen’s almost 50 years ago!!! My father told me to go to Brennens for breakfast and order the “Milk Punch.” And so coming again 50 years later Brennens did not disappoint . Everything about my past experience there came flushing back to me, only this time I appreciated being there even more. It was still so beautiful and the food was amazing. My husband had the Scottish egg dish and I had the Duck egg and Duck meat hash. Superb food and beautiful decor . Don’t miss the Brennens experience. Pictures to follow… we even came back the same day for happy hour cocktails.

I enjoyed the spacious 1st floor dining space, and my waiter (Donny) was good. The food, an artichoke spaghetti dish, was unimpressive (not hot, noodles clumped together), but my dirty martini was on point! Their pre-dinner bread was great.
