Believed to date back to the 17th century the Horse & Groom was originally used to house local farmer workers, with the increase in horse drawn traffic using the old Hastings Road the property was utilised to offer weary travellers a place to rest and stable their horse ready for their onward journey. It then, and has to this date, become known as the Horse and Groom . Free of tie, the pub now offers the traditional country pub fair, set in the glorious surroundings of Rushlake Green, with its picturesque village properties encircling the village green, centre of the villages attraction and host to many winter and summer events. The pub with it’s large private gardens offers a friendly and secure environment for families to enjoy beautiful views over the adjoining rolling Sussex countryside.

Great homely warm friendly pub with lovely staff, an open fire. It was perfect for us because we came from all different parts of Sussex with our Dogs went for a wonderful dog walk at the side of the pub and then went for the most delicious Sunday Lunch. Fantastic experience the suet steak and kidney pie was scrumptious mashed potatoes, a pile of veg lashings of gravy. Fresh tasty prawn cocktails. Honest good home cooked grub like my mum used to make. Not pretentious really fab place. Will definitely go again!

We visit here whenever there is a birthday or other event in the family, and we are never disappointed. They don't have a vast menu, which in my mind means everything is freshly prepared and not bought in from a commercial food supplier. Yes, I would definitely recommend visiting this charming country Inn.

We’ve been to The Crown many times over the last few years. Their food is consistently great. Our food today was outstanding. The atmosphere was lovely; there were a few families with young children in the pub. This added to the lovely feeling of the day. The service was just right. We’ll be back again.
