Chef Hakan is a second-generation baker who learned his craft in his uncle's bakery in Istanbul. His love for baking started out with making pastries and sourdough bread at first. Hit by a pizza obsession later on, similar to Anatolian flatbread, Chef Hakan studied, experimented, and observed various pizza-making methods. While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

Always one of my favorites. This new as menu rewrite may be the best one yet. Amazing beautiful presentation on the beet salad, delicious beef tongue app and beef cheek stuffed pasta. The manager Scott is one of the best and most gracious. And the new addition to the bar with Joseph has totally made a huge difference. His passion and expertise has leveled up the overall Torc experience. I usually do all of my food and beverage pairing, but I trusted him to create some cocktails based on what he thought would go good with the meal and he over delivered.

Entrees are individual, however there is definately enough to still do "family-style" if dining with a large party. Service was also great and one of the highlights. Recommend the mapo ramen, good spice and flavor.
