Contrary to popular belief, JJ's Restaurant is not named for popular owner Jimmy Frantzé. In 1985, Jimmy purchased JJ Malane's from his former business partner and the saloon's namesake. Malane's went away, but JJ's remained, and a West Plaza fine dining icon was born. Jimmy invested his enthusiasm and passion for exceptional contemporary American food, steaks and wine to build one of the finest restaurants in Kansas City just a block west of the Country Club Plaza. He helped create an environment that attracted and kept one of the most professional staffs in the region. First time there; went for our anniversary dinner. It was absolutely fabulous on all counts; innovative dishes, excellent wine and our server spent time with us and was super pleasant. We love the quant atmosphere and feels like we are in Paris. We drove 45 mins to get there and we are coming back again soon for sure!

We all three had the fillets which were cooked to perfection. The cauliflower au gratin was extremely good and full of flavor. It was a delightful way to have a Christmas Meal.

The food is always so so good! That keeps us coming back. We are always a bit disappointed in service. Just small complaints like we were sat at the bar to wait for our table and the bar was dirty and we as never wiped down. The people next to us with a different waiter were sat about 30 min before us and received their food and drinks after us. They seem short staffed and disorganized. We have noticed this on busy and slow nights. Our server last night was great and we had no complaints.
