Each day, the restaurant receives natural, local organic meats and produce from nearby vendors. The inclusion of regional Pacific Northwest ingredients into a menu of dishes developed in the south has created a unique flavor profile in Screen Door's menu. Many of Screen Doors dishes draw their inspiration from Louisiana and the Cajun cooking that's found there. These include our world-famous fried chicken, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, smoked andouille chicken gumbo and fried okra. Other items, like the house-smoked beef brisket and braised pork shoulder, come straight from the state of Texas. The rest of the South is well represented as well with a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, chicken and waffles, crispy fried oysters and a pimiento cheese & sausage biscuit sandwich with a fried egg and cheddar grits.

Recently, when we are at a couple of great yet casual restaurants in Laguna Beach, CA and Montreal, we saw how there was a number of people who were obviously regulars and we remarked at how nice it would be to have a place like that in Portland. L'Orange is now that place for us. Cozy, unpretentious and completely reasonable, it is that place where you instantly feel comfortable and at ease. There isn't that fussiness and haute haughtiness that have come to define other high dining experiences here in Portland. The food is superb with their inventive takes on French cuisine that throws you for a loop, yet still entreats you with fond remembrances of the melody it riffs off of. The chicken liver tart bears a special mention; it was nothing I would have imagined it to be but certainly everything sublime in the way it tasted. The service was equally as outstanding, discreet yet friendly, the staff navigating the cozy quarters deftly and attentive to the guests' needs. L'Orange deserves every accolade it gets and we are happy to now count this as a place we want to come back to again and again.

We had the radicchio salad, beef and pork gnocchi and tagliata. The salad was so fresh and delicious, the Caesar style dressing was absolutely to die for and it wasn’t overdressed (which is a usual problem for me). The beef and pork gnocchi was soft and tender, and the ragu was so flavorful. The tagliata was cooked to perfection and the chimichurri was the perfect compliment. I’m really glad I didn’t let the string of poor reviews impact my decision to dine here. Perfect atmosphere, impeccable service and some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a while. Brava Nostrana!

The views from the restaurant are amazing! The table was perfect, just what we needed for our business meeting. The management was very accommodating when I had to add additional seating the day before. The staff showed us exceptional service and was super friendly plus very knowledgeable about the menu. We had an excellent time and will definitely be back!

The wine list is interesting, concentrating on great Italian wines you might not have heard of (but should) at really fair prices. The food is fantastic reginonal Italian-influened cooking and excellently prepared. What a lovely mix of sophisticated cooking, great wines, and sincere service. Adding to our regulars list for sure.
