We’ve long loved Canary Wharf and it's rich history of the nearby Docklands and Billingsgate Market, yet Blacklock in a glass tower never quite fit. One look at an old disused warehouse nestled cosily in the corner of Canary Wharf underneath the train tracks of the North Dock and we knew we had found home. Feel the comforting rumble of trains passing overhead conjuring memories of some of our favourite haunts underneath the bridges in NYC - a place where, with the blinds rolled down and away from prying eyes, a decadent lunch can swiftly roll into dinner.

Hawksmoor Wood Wharf is housed in an eco-friendly floating pavilion in a new riverside neighbourhood in Canary Wharf. Gently rising and falling with the tide, the main restaurant at dock-level is joined by a 120-seat waterside bar. Both include terraces with views across the water (squint your eyes and you might just see the ghosts of great ships laden with mighty lengths of timber that used to swing in and unload there). There's also a private dining room for up to 20 people named after the local legend Queenie Watts, a singer, songwriter, actor and self-confessed bawdy landlady (think Peggy Mitchell meets Joni Mitchell). The menu revolves around the best British produce the country has to offer with grass-fed dry-aged ethically reared beef, sustainable seafood from the South coast and some of the biggest hits from the Hawksmoor New York menu.

Blacklock is a modern version of the Great British chophouse. Set in an old electricity substation on the site of London"s oldest meat market. We take the best meat in the country from the award-winning farmer and butcher Philip Warren in Cornwall. We cook chops simply over our real charcoal grill with a little help from vintage Blacklock irons and serve it all up alongside cocktails that give back and wine on tap in our atmospheric subterranean chop mecca. On Sundays we serve a Roast almost as good as Mum's.We have limited spaces for Walk-ins, so we encourage booking in advance to avoid disappointment during busy times.Monday - FridayBookings & Walk-ins for lunch - 12pm - 3pmBookings & Walk-ins for dinner - 5pm - 10pmSaturday Bookings & Walk-ins all day - 12 - 10.30pmSundayBookings & Walk-ins - 12pm - 5:45pm

Situated on level 33 of The Shard, Hutong at The Shard serves the fascinating and diverse cuisines of Northern China and is based on the much-loved restaurant of the same name in Hong Kong. Hutong at The Shard’s cuisine takes its inspiration from the dishes served in the imperial palaces of what was then Peking. Based on the ‘Lu school’ cuisine of Shandong Province, the menu artfully captures the subtlety and surprises of Northern Chinese cooking. A cocktail selection inspired by ingredients used in traditional Chinese medicine and stunning interior, complete with traditional Chinese red lanterns and beautiful hand-carved wood-panelled ‘Moon Gates’, offer London diners a new destination restaurant with panoramic views over London’s skyline. We currently do not accept OpenTable dining cheques.

My experince of blacklock this time was just as good as all the previous times I have attended if not even better! My message for my food request wasn’t read until I arrived meaning the steak I preordered was out of stock but the amazing Josh, saved our anniversary meal and made our evening one to remember. BIG SHOUT OUT TO JOSH! Thank you all for your amazing service and making us feel comfortable.

I love the food even though and even though there’s only one vegetarian option it’s delicious. The bar downstairs has a cosy, art deco American feel with large booths to fit everyone in. The restaurant has a buzzy feel and even though it was busy the service is impeccable; as always.

This is our 3rd experience of The Blacklock, and 2nd at the City branch. Quite honestly, I can’t fault it. We brought our friends from Cornwall and they were so impressed too. From the greeting by the manager Arty, to our server Andreas (apologies if spelt incorrectly) we were made to feel from comfortable. My husband asked for a flavoured cider but they only had draft original, so the barman asked which flavour he was after and bought over a few for him to try to mix with his cider. That was excellent customer service. We were provided with full explanations of the cuts of meat so that we could make informed choices. One of our party has a nut allergy so was very impressed with how knowledgeable they were able the food prep in the kitchen. The food was delicious, from the smoked beef rib to the mountain of chops. The beef dripping chips were to die for. The beets with curds were a refreshing a compliment. We guys were fussing over which desserts to choose, when we all received spoons followed by bowls of bread and butter pudding and white chocolate cheese cake. When we questioned Andréa, she smiled and told us she overheard us and these were on the house. We were bowled over once again the amazing vibe of the City branch. The food their chiefs prepare, the waiting staff and the local are superb. We will certainly be booking again very soon.
