Welcome to Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ by James Beard Nominated Chef Michael Lewis. “Japanese Smokehouse” is defined as merging Japanese ingredients and flavors with American BBQ techniques, and everything in between.Menu highlights include light and refreshing dishes such as Wagyu Tataki with house kimchee, yuzu kosho and savory soy or Tuna Takaki with fire roasted peppers + ponzu, to bolder flavors such as Smoked Pastrami Short Rib with toasted rye, fire roasted kimchi + yuzu pickles. We are currently open 5 days a week for Dinner as we navigate after Hurricane Helene.Please note, our dining room consists of booths, regular tables and high-tops. The Bistro is located on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate, right next door to Biltmore's award-winning winery. Please be aware that you must have a valid paid estate admission ticket, be staying at Inn on Biltmore Estate or Village Hotel, or be a Biltmore Annual Passholder to dine on property. Please note that due to limited seating availability we are unable to accept reservations for our patio. All patio seating is assigned on a first come first served basis. The Bistro features contemporary American fare. Fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients are the focus on the dinner menu, which features premium steaks, impeccable mountain trout and seafood, poultry and lamb. Gardens on the estate produce a wide array of vegetables and fruits throughout the seasons, and our extensive pasture lands provide all-natural, hormone-free Black Angus beef and lamb.

    Great steaks if you’re looking for wood fired flavor. Get the chimichuri sauce on the side, it’s amazing! Brussels, mashed potatoes and beets were all incredible sides! Will definitely be back next time we’re in Asheville

    The Cinnamon Challah with coconut was phenomenal. French press coffee was very good. Great place for great food and conversation. Overall environment was relaxing. 100% recommend this restaurant.

    One of our most pleasurable dining experiences in a while. The small plate (similar to Tapas) selection was fantastic. My wife and I selected 5 items and a dessert which were all easily sharable. The service was fantastic. Our server took the time to explain the various items on the menu and answered our questions. The bartender came to our table to explain a drink variation my wife was interested in and created a signature drink on the spot. We felt very satisfied by the time we were done and was pleasantly surprised when we received the bill and saw how reasonable it was. We attended a comedy show at the Orange Peel which was so convenient to Ukiah. We don't live in Asheville, but we will surely return here the next time we are in town.

    If you are looking for extraordinary experience for dining, this is it !! Beyond professional greeting, hosting to table, intro by waiter. Waiter was beyond expectations, with recommendations on wine pairing, sauces on selections, and general menu options. Had charred octopus to start, Elk loin with suggested sauce and seared scallops as addition. Saulteed mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes as side. Would order again and again !! Strawberry Bruelee for desert !! Do not want to spoil visit!!! Wait until you are handed the menu !!!! Trust Me !!
