We are an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Their first restaurant together, owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened Here's Looking At You in 2016. Named a "Restaurant of the Year" by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National's "38 Most Essential Restaurants," HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh's "Becoming a Restaurateur." After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant. Thanks to you, Here's Looking At You is back.

Metropole Bar & Kitchen highlights a classic west coast cuisine inspired by our culinary team’s heritage and the local community. Our lobby-level restaurant welcomes guests for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, available seven days a week. Much like the rest of our property, Metropole Bar & Kitchen’s design was inspired by muse Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American international movie star who lived in Downtown L.A. during the early 1900s during the time of prohibition.Stepping into our dining area is reminiscent of decades past with nods to DTLA’s prohibition era. From our booths and lowered ceilings that embody speakeasies and underground tunnels that once transported spirits and contraband, to the black & white photos of Jazz musicians inspired by the Jazz Era of the 1920s. The food was really outstanding, and the service was very, very good. The room is noisy and it was made worse by some of the music choices and the volume of the music. The lighting at night time is not ideal for a restaurant offering this quality of food. It would be nicer to enjoy the food and the service in an environment where you don't have to yell at each other. The acoustics of the room is difficult, so maybe it would be wise to tone things down a little bit.

I can’t stop thinking about this meal—even five days later! It wasn’t just food; it was a masterpiece. Each dish felt like a journey for both the palate and the mind. If you’re open to a truly immersive dining experience and willing to splurge, this is one indulgence that’s absolutely worth every penny. The staff was beyond incredible—gracious, attentive, and genuinely kind. They went above and beyond to make the evening unforgettable, even packing up my favorite emulsion to savor at home (and trust me, it was just as delicious the next day!). From start to finish, everything about this place exudes artistry and warmth. If you’re ready for an unforgettable culinary adventure, this is the spot. Yummm…

The burger is bomb! Very rich so it can be shared between two. The Caesar salad was also a damn delight! If you're feeling like splurging def add the 30-day aged steak!
