Nestled in the heart of Ashtown Village, Dublin 15, overlooking the Royal Canal, The Lock Keeper can be found at Lock #10. Steeped in heritage, this double lock was constructed c.1792. With quality stonework and attractive sloping edges Lock 10 is one of 46 along the Royal Canal and continues to be a testament to the skill of the craftsmen involved. Our bar is adjacent to the Lock Keepers House, a post that became obsolete in 1961 when the canal was closed to traffic the previous year. The Royal Canal, which runs from the River Liffey to the River Shannon and stretches a distance of 145km, was originally built for freight and passenger transportation with the last working barges ceasing to operate in 1951.Now beautifully maintained by Irish Waterways, you are welcome to visit The Lock Keeper by canoeing, walking or cycling from Dublin City Centre. Everything was great except the portion size. I’m not a big eater & usually find that starter, main course & desert are just too much so usually 2 courses is enough. Ordered the lamb. It was described as coming with creamed potatoes and vegetables. Whilst it was presented well and tasted lovely, it was way too small. It looked like a mini island of food lost in the middle of a dinner plate. Even some additional vegetables to help part fill the plate would have been appreciated. Once it landed it was too late to order any Additional side dishes which would have taken longer to prepare than the few minutes required to eat what was presented. Cost was €24. I followed it with coffee & desert. I went out for dinner but actually had to make a sandwich when I got home. As I say, I’m not a big eater although I’m a regular restaurant goer & I’ve never complained about online before and I’ve never gone home & had to make something to eat after having been out for dinner. I hope this feedback is taken constructively as it is intended.

Everything was perfect! The food was delicious, the place was cozy and the service was outstanding! Perfect for a special dinner. We went there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and the waiters and waitress were so attentive and made sure it was memorable. Luna was super nice and helpful with her recommendations. We can’t wait to come back and try other dishes, they really were absolutely delightful (and so many vegetarian options!). Highly recommend!
