Lavergne’s Tavern opened in June, 2016 at the corner of Windsor and East Avenues in the old Garv’s Inn location, a staple in Berwyn since the ’60s. The tin ceiling and hardwood floors are restored, and the storied Garv’s Inn bar is rebuilt from scratch using reclaimed black walnut. A combination of high-top bar seating and lower tables help keep the atmosphere friendly to both families and those looking to join a date or friends for a night out.Led by Executive Chef, Mark Downing, the menu is accessible but elevated. Items are priced from $6-$9 for shareable appetizers to entrées at around $14-$16. The Italian Beef Egg Roll, filled with Italian beef, giardiniera, spicy queso, Monterey jack cheese, and au jus dipping sauce is, in one customer’s words, “life changing.”

Grand Dukes Restaurant serves unique and comforting Lithuanian and eastern European cuisine in its impressive and rustic eatery. Starters such as the Lithuanian potato nachos topped with beer cheese sauce, bacon and jalapenos and the potato pancakes with sour cream and applesauce, are perfect introductions to Dukes' style of cuisine. Some of Grand Dukes Restaurant's house specialties include the pierogi dumplings with potato and onions topped with a sour cream bacon sauce, the crispy chicken Kiev filled with garlic butter and the salmon in envelope with sliced potatoes, leeks, and creamy dill sauce. Sandwiches, such as the veal wiener schnitzel with Swiss cheese on brioche, the classic Rueben and the breaded pork cutlet belly buster sandwich with garlic sauce, are customer favorites and are ideal with a European beer. Grand Dukes Restaurant also hosts live music events every Friday and Saturday, which perfectly complements the already-merry atmosphere.

Our experience was amazing. Our waitress was so accommodating to our two young children and made them feel so special. The food was great as well. We loved everything we ate. Definitely will plan on coming back the next time we are in town.

Our server, Emma was prompt, but not pushy. She was extremely calm despite the busy night. We had casual food in a casual setting and it was just perfect for a couple of days before Christmas. The Ajhi tuna sandwich and salad were both wonderful, the shrimp Poboy Drew rave reviews, and the chicken sandwich pleased the person who ordered it. A good bottle of Malbec, and we were all very happy.

We sat at the bar and everyone who helped us was incredibly kind and created a warm environment. We watched the Bears lose which ruined the very great food we had. We had the sliders (9/10), the fried pickles (10/10), and the Nashville hot sandwich (7/10). The chicken had a little too much breading but otherwise good flavor. Would come back and try other items!
