Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly.     From the moment we walked in to leaving everything was exquisite. My husband and I went for our 1 year wedding anniversary and we were welcomed by the hostess with a “Happy Anniversary”. We were then greeted by our waiter Samuel M. who enhanced our dining experience from the beginning with complimentary glasses of champagne, singing and ending with complimentary dessert. Our entrees were phenomenal as well as the drinks! We will most definitely be returning!

    Lots of people eat here just for the experience…. And rightly so! It is quirky and fun but we have eaten here a number of times with many different people and the food is always really good… just keep in mind that fresh tomatoes in the winter aren’t great. Wished I had ordered the beet salad rather than the Victor salad.

    Our server Nick was excellent. Very knowledgeable and attentive. The food and atmosphere are great. The crab rice is addictive . Warm hospitality, exceptional service, live music, and a cozy ambiance complemented perfectly cooked dishes like barbecue ribs, jumbo shrimp, and crawfish mac and cheese.
