We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect. Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. One of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Jess was the sweetest and most knowledgeable server, who made us feel relaxed and comfortable, and suggested an amazing bottle of wine to pair perfectly with our dishes. Everything was fantastic and it was a great experience!

From the time we walked in until we left, we felt not but the utmost hospitality from the FoH staff. Our server was friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu. The food came out timely and everything was delicious. We were seated near the chef’s counter and it was fun to watch things being prepared. The focaccia, cauliflower, beets, and short rib risotto were incredible and the cheesecake shouldn’t be missed. Highly recommend this for your next dinner spot

Very friendly staff and good service. Delicious coffee- I bought beans to take home. The bakery goods are wonderful and it’s fun to watch the bakers in the separate open kitchen by the front windows.
