Lavagna opened its doors on February 1st 1999.The restaurant offers casual Italian trattoria fare at moderate prices. The vibe is candlelit, cozy, with an old wood burning oven, exposed brick walls, a pressed tin ceiling and a small wine bar where one can dine also. A wall of French doors swing open in the warmer weather to a seasonal sidewalk cafe of 20 seats. The kitchen concept is to create dishes traditionally Italian, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients and product of the highest quality. The menu highlights include homemade pastas, a wood oven roasted fish for two, roast pork chop, baby rack of lamb and of course the rigatoni with sweet and spicy sausage that has become a classic over the years. The wine list has been a yearly recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2002 and it focuses on hard to find wines from regional Italy along with other international selections.

We came here for my girlfriends birthday and loved every minute. The restaurant is beautiful, and the food is excellent. The highlight, however, was Nicholas, he is a fantastic waiter. The right amount of attentive, always made sure our glasses were full. My girlfriend was feeling a bit indecisive on her birthday so we asked Nicholas for suggestions. First the wine, he nailed it, I don’t often like white wine but his suggestion was perfect. He then suggested the margarita pizza, again nailed it. We were thinking of doing something with more toppings but the simplicity of the margarita pizza made it stand out. Oh! And Nicolas made my girlfriend’s birthday feel special by singing and bringing out a dessert with a nice little piece of chocolate saying happy birthday. Nicolas is a server every restaurant wants. My *only* complaint is that I think they could get rid of one table in the restaurant and the spacing would be much better. We sat in the tables along the wall, you know the ones with the booth on one end and the chair on the other. It felt a bit too much like I was dining with the people next to me rather than my significant other on her birthday. I understand one more table can make a big difference for income, but it was a tad too tight.

This place is awesome in an awesome location. Everything is fresh and authentic. The service is out of this world! The waitress would come over and pour or bottle of wine they even answered any questions we had. The owner came up to our table and greeted us! This place felt homey in an area that has changed so much over the years. I would definitely recommend this for any date night, out with friends or a family outing.
