Experience the beauty of the Pacific Ocean at The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steak, overlooking Kailua Bay on the Big Island Hawaii. Enjoy fresh seafood from Hawaii and fresh seafood flown in weekly from California, plus our signature Bucket of Fire and Volcano flaming drinks, all within walking distance to shops and historic sites.

A landmark (formerly the Ocean View Inn) and a local’s favorite Kona restaurant since 1934, the building housing The Fish Hopper has been beautifully restored to expand upon its spectacular ocean views. We proudly serve seafood from sustainable sources, harvested by methods that do not harm the environment.

We love to honor our Veterans & Military! Please let us know if you are one, upon arrival.

Great food, great service. Had the Ono sandwich and it was outstanding. We always put Fish Hopper’s on the must eat places list in Kailua-Kona when we’re on the Big Island

Excellent customer service, The food was overcooked and overpriced. The menu has 3 pages of drinks and one of food. A loose leaf of a menu page of additional food . The portions are exaggerated. I’d rather cook my self than comeback to this place. The staff was lovely. I suspect this place is still open due to tourism, locals would know better than to stop and eat here. But to each its own, I didn’t like it.

We had dinner on two different occasions and breakfast once during our week in Kailua Kona. The first dinner was our best, with Chelsea as our server. The fish was fantastic, I had the Mahi-Mahi with mango-papaya salsa and citrus sauce. My partner had the Hawaiian Ono with ginger and lemongrass. Both were excellent choices, although we both thought that the seasonal vegetables on the side were undercooked. Our second dinner was not as nice, as our server, Jacob, seemed to be new to serving and he was having an off night. The fish was still excellent; I had the special Parmesan Mahi-Mahi with garlic shrimp, and my partner had the seared tuna. The vegetables were even more undercooked than our first night; my partner had a difficult time cutting them with a knife and fork, and they were quite chewy. The desert selection is excellent; I don't think you can go wrong with any of the numerous choices. As far as value, the prices have gone up and the quantity of food has decreased since our last visit a year ago. For example, my dinner with shrimp came with only 2 shrimp, which seems skimpy given that it was their special for the night. However, the fish servings and the sauces are well worth the price. As for breakfast, Teri was our excellent server, and the food was both plentiful and delicious. But be prepared to spend over $50 for breakfast.
