Flesh & Buns Covent Garden, from the team behind Bone Daddies and Shackfuyu, is located within the bustling Seven Dials area in Covent Garden. Inspired by Japanese izakayas, roughly translated as a pub or place designed for informal eating and drinking, Flesh & Buns is the first restaurant in London to specialise in gua bao buns (DIY filled steamed buns).
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.

Firstly unaware that we were charged for a bottle of water - waiting staff should specify that water is not complimentary (otherwise they should offer tap water). Staff unwilling to budge on menu item - chose this place as we wanted to try the sharing platter (which on website, had chicken option), on the menu in the restaurant, chicken option had been swapped for salmon (which neither dining guests like), we why the sharing platter was different and we were told that it had recently been changed. We asked if the salmon could be swapped for the chicken and were simply told no 🤷🏻‍♀️ we felt this more of a “we won’t” situation, rather than “we can’t”. Squid starter was delicious - both main items also very tasty - “cucumber” salad, needed more cucumber in it to be classed as a cucumber salad, tasted like wet, warm grass and very unpleasant. Carrot “pickle” on one of the dishes, needed to actually be pickled, (was just grated carrot on the side of the plate)! Found the staff to be a bit overbearing, overall. Food overall was nice, service let it down so would not go again nor recommend to others.

Very good food, good service and environment. Slightly overpriced for the quality and size of portions, but overall I’d recommend giving it a try.

We had an amazing time! Food is incredible definitely some of the best I’ve ever tasted! Service was top notch too, everything just running so smoothly and calmly. It’s so refreshing to be somewhere that does everything they do to such a high standard. We had tasting menu, which was exceptional! Hard to chose favorites but the broccoli was such a surprise and seriously one of the best things iv ever tasted! Obviously chicken wings and pork belly also amazing, succulent. The attention to detail and all the sauces and condiments too, really thoughtful and all such a perfect balance of strong Flavours. We will be back I am sure! Thank you so much!

Delayed getting seated even though reserved. Whole bottle of water spilt down us - no apology. Food not great. Had to constantly ask for things - no attentiveness (bill, drinks etc). Pricey for what was served. Cocktail not nice - spicy tuna roll was abnormally spicy

Really tasty food, nice dimly-lit casual-chic place to celebrate a birthday or meet a friend, bao buns are the highlight (if you order a few in the middle to share with a big group make sure to order extra buns!). The staff were really kind and accommodating of our requests for the birthday, however sometimes a bit slow where we needed to follow up and ask several times when making a request - in fairness it may have been because we were one of the last tables and they were preparing for closing. Fair value for money - we ordered a variety of dishes to share amongst 5 people and paid ~£40 each excl. drinks. HIGHLIGHTS: - Starters: sushi platter & padron peppers - Mains: Lamb, wagyu steak, aubergine bao buns (add all the veggies and sauces to your bun!) - Dessert: Miso French toast with whiskey ice cream (WOW - although the ice cream got divided responses..) - Drink: Lucky Cat cocktail - peachy & summery
