Founded by former Ziegfield girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful gambler and sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927. At that time, the height of Prohibition, a good stiff drink and a great steak were hard to find in New York – except, of course, at Gallaghers.

New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.

Gallaghers’ guests are welcome in a wide variety of attire – from elegant casual to business suits. We respectfully request that you refrain from wearing hats, sports jerseys, tank tops and shorts.

                                                                                        The porterhouse steak was good however we are not big eaters. Had lots leftover from the two serving. The sides were excellent. The menu for the porterhouse was misleading. They had a cost per person however only serves from two. Why indicate the per person cost? Overall a good experience for a one time visit when in the big apple.

                                                                                        It's delicious, the service atmosphere is good, and the price is good, so I think it's the best cost-effectiveness among steak houses in New York, but it's a little noisy compared to Keens, Wolfgang, and Peter Luger.

                                                                                        Schönes Restaurant. Allerdings wird man als junger Mensch unseriös behandelt. Wir wurden neben der offenen Küche gesetzt, wo man sein gegenüber akustisch gar nicht versteht, obwohl man pro Person ca. 100$ da lässt. Ich würde hier nicht nochmal herkommen, zu dem der Preis für das Fleisch nicht ganz gerechtfertigt ist. Da kenne ich bessere Lokale in NY und Europa die Gäste nicht nach Alter sortieren… Schade

The staff were excellent from the moment we arrived to the time we left. The steaks are out of this world, incredible. Ordered the sirloin steak medium and it was perfect. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, it’s pricey but you know that before you go in. Would highly recommend
