   My fiancé and I have been coming to Hugo’s for the last 7 years for Christmas Eve and our anniversary we have never had a bad experience until 12/24. We had a 6pm reservation and when we walked In it was so crowded we had no where to stand, we waited 15 minutes to be seated and my reservation was for indoor seating and we were at outdoor. After being seated it was another 15-20 minutes before a waitress came over. We ordered oysters the east coast for an appetizer, they were so small you could barely taste them. We ordered our entrees after about another 15-20 went by, I ordered the porkchop and potato and my partner the shrimp dejon. It took so long for our food to come out that I almost canceled our order (it was a little past 7:30 at this point). Bus boys were coming over and dropping off incorrect food or offering us mashed potato’s for our wait. When the food finally came my partners shrimp was cold and incorrect it was more like shrimp soup. His rice side was cold and hard as if it was scrapped from the bottom of a pot. We immediately asked for boxes and check. This was very disappointing for us as it’s not a cheap place we eat and we usually rave about how great it is. I’d like to give you guys another chance but at this point for the money we wasted on Christmas Eve I don’t think we will continue this tradition.

   As we overheard the manager say, “we bit off more than we can chew.” Over crowded, understaffed. It took 45 minutes just to put an appetizer in. Once we ordered our meal for 3 people, we waited an hour for it to come with no communication from our server. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. I think we are good on it for awhile.

   Hugo’s was packed last night. We were seated a few minutes late but we ended up in a booth. The server and staff did a great job with attention to detail. The staff was completely on game. The general manager stopped and chatted a bit despite an estimated 860 reservations for the night. The sautéed frog legs and escargot were prepared to perfection. We all ordered fish dinners with each cooked perfectly and served hot. All things excellent!

   Food and service were good. The entry way to the host stand was chaotic and very irritating to deal with. There is no room to wait conveniently, so everyone is standing trying to avoid bumping into each other. Not sure why there is always this issue when we go there, doesn't make for a relaxing dinner experience.

   We frequent the bar at Hugos but rarely dine in. We decided to treat ourselves for Christmas Eve this year and had a great experience. The food was delicious, came out hot, and was served at a perfect pace. We were given the time to enjoy the evening and not feel rushed. Our waiter, Sean, was amazing. We will request to be seated in his section next year!

   Honestly, this was a disappointing visit. The raisin read was stale, the pumpkin risotto under the scallops was bland, and when Iwent to the restroom, someone took my 1/2 full vodka soda drink!

   We were seated in an outdoor space that was enclosed and had heat lamps. This was not indicated when I made the reservation. Ruined the experience. Don’t book this restaurant unless you call and ensure you are seated in the dining room.

   While most of my dining at Hugos has been good, this time I just can’t give more than an average rating. It’s the holidays so I’m assuming this is why our lunch was just ok due to the food being warm not hot and them running out of ground beef so no Hugo’s burger! We should have been told before ordering that we couldn’t order the burger very disappointing.
