Il Violino was established in 1993 by the Mariani family. They are from Villa Santa Maria, a little town in the heart of Italy (Abruzzo) known as La patria dei cuochi (chefs from this town have been executives at the Vatican, the White House, embassies and top restaurants and cruise lines around the world). Il Violino has been one of the original Lincoln Center Italian restaurants and, in these days, one of the few still in operation.
The chef Vincenzo Mariani, formerly the executive chef at Monsignore (one of the top restaurant in New York City in the 70’s and 80’s), leaded the kitchen with his international experience and created an original and innovative Italian menu.
In 2009 the owner, decided to write a new page. The restaurant has been transformed into a Trattoria: a warmer and cozier ambiance, one of those that you can easily find in any small town in Italy.

    Great place for dinner pre opera. Meatball appetizer was very tasty. Special spinach linguine is homemade and excellent. Risotto frutti di mare was amazing. Cozy place with excellent service.

    Great neighborhood eatery serving classic and inventive Italian dishes. We had the homemade pasta special with calamari, Arugula in a spicy marina sauce. It was fresh and delicious. Also shared the shrimp oreganata. Also very good! Courses came out pretty fast and were piping hot! Look forward to going back.

    We were all pleased with the quality of the food. We had a risotto, ravioli and gnocchi which were all prepared. I am talian and am rarely impressed with Italian restaurants, but I would gladly return here.

    This is a great local Italian restaurant and one of our favorites. The tables are close together and give it an intimate feel but the noise level is loud enough that your conversations are private. The portions are good sized and the food and wine are both reasonably priced. The service is very good and they make you feel special, welcomed and valued.

    We just left Lincoln Center (David Geffen Hall) and went here. We made reservations a month ago. Food is excellent, quantities are more than adiquate. A good varied wine list. Service was prompt and superb. Ambience is terrific. Spotlessly clean. Prices aree well in line with today. We reccomend it to anyone!!
