Little Italy was built by the fishing industry. Ironside attempts to continue that narrative. It's our contemporary interpretation of the classic fish house and oyster bar. Located in a historic auction house on India St we did a full comprehensive restoration of the building, with three open-air culinary hubs featuring an expansive raw bar, chefs table, and bakery. We tried to be mindful of the past while looking towards the future. Groups of 6 or more will be charged an automatic 20% gratuity. A 4% surcharge will be added to all guest checks.

Ironside is now taking reservations for patio and dining room seating.

We are now offering Happy Hour MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 3:00PM - 5:00PM.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Moira Hill

From the OpenTable editors: Portholes, anchor hooks, and an enormous octopus sculpture—the nautical energy is strong at this seafood giant. Executive chef Danielle Van Steen puts her stamp on highlights like bone marrow with tuna tartare and sesame smoked trout. The sprawling restaurant is set in a former auction house, hinting at San Diego’s maritime past.

Had a wonderful time for my birthday. Staff came by to wish me a happy birthday and were very attentive without being overbearing. The happy hour oysters are a killer deal and really enjoyed my meal. Our server, Mitchel, was stellar! Great hospitality.

This restaurant is just okay for its price point. Ambiance - warning to folks sensitive about eating in low light, it’s very dark. You only have light from a small oil lamp on your table. Gives the ‘eating at the bottom of a ship in the 1700s vibe’. The banquette looks nice but is uncomfortable with no cushions and wood slats that stop half way up your spine. Food - ordered a winter citrus salad ($15) that had unripe avocados and a very bitter citrus vinaigrette that wasn’t balanced enough. My main was the octopus rigatoni ($28) that prepared the octopus as a bolognese. To me, it felt like just a standard bolognese recipe with chopped octopus thrown in rather than adapting the recipe to the unique protein and making the octopus stand out. The menu also mentioned some added spice but to me, it was too spicy, which usually isn’t an issue for me. And the sprouts added on top served literally no purpose other than aesthetics I guess. For a highly seafood forward menu, I think there’s some work to do on both quality of ingredients and depths of flavors for this price point. Service - wonderful.
