With Broadway's staggered start times, things get tricky, so if you're desired time is unavailable online, please give us a call, as we hold a certain number of tables for phone reservations only. For parties of six or more, please call the restaurant directly.

Since 1965, Joe Allen has been a quintessential New York restaurant serving a classic American menu in the heart of the Theater District. Just two blocks from Times Square, it has been a favorite of Broadway performers, locals, and tourists for almost 50 years.

We begin taking reservations seven days in advance starting at midnight online and at 11 a.m. over the phone.

Because of staggered theatre times we can only guarantee reservations made online for one-and-a-half hours for parties of two, and two hours for parties of three or more.

    Repeat customer of Joe Allen's, it is (was?) our "go-to" for before/after a show. Service is always amazing--friendly and quick service without ever feeling rushed. We were very disappointed this time however (Jan. 11, 2025) to see that the menu had changed and did not match what was posted online. None of our favorite dishes from past visits were offered and we struggled to find something we wanted to eat. Two of us settled on a burger (which was delicious) and another on the caesar salad with chicken (safe bet, but pretty basic). I still think it is generally a good place to go (you can get a great burger with fries) if your meal requirements are flexible (and you don't go by the menu posted online :)

    Love going here before a show. Food is fine, nothing outstanding. Staff is terrific, and it’s a nice, warm, cozy atmosphere. Will continue to go here habitually.

    Our server was a delight and helped make the afternoon. Favorites at the table were the duck confit and La Scala salad. Delish and a good value. The room is cozy and buzzing but you can still have a conversation. Joe Allen continues to be my pre-show go to.

    We loved our after-show experience; top-notch service, welcoming staff, excellent food. The energy in the room was warm, happy, off-the-charts happenin’. We hadn’t been here in a few years - it’s still the place to be after an evening in a Broadway theater.

    Guacamole was outstanding, same for the Steak Tartare and the Hamburger! Meatloaf was not as good although still OK.

    This is our go-to pre-theater spot. The food is always good, there's something for everyone (even out-of-town guests), the service is always superb, and we always get our check in time to make the show. I'm partial to their Caesar's salad and burger, and the hot fudge pudding dessert, but all the guests I've brought here have also enjoyed their meals (salmon, pasta, you name it).

    Went there before a Sunday Broadway Matinee. Food was delicious,had the grilled shrimp salad. Also had the chips and Guac appetizer which was great. They seated us early even though we were a half hour early and one person was missing - service was great. They were very accomodating to special requests from the person in our party who was vegan. would definitely return.
