   This was a very bad experience and all caused by the owner himself asking for more tips on a nearly 400 USD bill. This is outrageous. Service and food were nothing special, menu was not published and food was just ok, bread not fresh, service completely disorganized 3 waiters at all times pouring wine to excess and not knowing what was going on. This was a very important date for valentine and second visit for us, this was simply a disaster and will never return. I am a hospitality professional with 25 years in the field and did not understand this at all. This behaviour is unaceptable and if this person thinks he runs an institution in NY he is far form the bill. Never again for us, poor servcie, poor food, horrible attitude

   The service and food were both excellent. I started with the wild mushrooms flambéed under puff pastry. My boyfriend had a delicious goat cheese special. We both had the branzino in a fish broth. For dessert we both had a great lemon tart.

   We arrived about 15 minutes prior to the dinner service and were seated right away anyway. The owner was very gracious and recited the appetizer specials and then the entrée specials of the day. Service was so good that we hardly noticed plates/flatware/glasses being exchanged for new ones. The food was awesome and everything you want in French bistro. The atmosphere was very pleasant as more and more diners arrived. We were never rushed. I was dining with an old friend and of course we much to catch up on. I kept a close watch on the amount of empty tables as not to overstay our welcome. When we got our bill, realized it was over 3 hours since we arrived and again, never felt rushed. Because of that we over tipped to thank the fantastic staff and then personally thanked our gracious host (owner). We will return again to explore the menu further. Thank you, thank you thank you.

   A quintessential Greenwhich Village French bistro full of charm and ambience, wonderful food. The owner, Alain, is a host out of a marvelous classic film, a Frenchman out of a beautiful dream.

   Lovely meal in a very relax atmosphere, warm ambiance and very professional service. We understand why it has been open for so many years and still being one of the favorites of the people. Please stay here for another 40 years!!

   Excellent as ever. I have been going to La Ripaille for more than 20 years and it never disappoints, especially in the holiday time. It's a West Village legend for a reason: apart from the amazing food, the staff is always warm and inviting, and that has no doubt a lot to do with Alain, who has been the captain of this gem of a ship for decades. Word is its days are numbered and I will be sad to see it go. Its continued presence in an ever-changing NY was, and for now, is a comfort.

    Very beautiful Restaurant with a really kind owner. The food quality is fantastic. Just the amount of food is too low for the high price. Service is good, but we had to wait like 10-15 mins just to get the menu. All over, it’s a very nice and cozy place. One thing that I didn’t like is, that I had to pay 40$ just for the reservation (but I don’t know if it’s from open table or the restaurant).
