Lightly grilling the fig brings out its sweetness. I have literally never tasted that in my entire life. And I cannot get that for any amount of money anywhere, except at La Tavola. The chef has a commercial fishing license and he sometimes goes fishing in the morning and serves at the restaurant the fish he caught the same day. The chef's commitment to fresh ingredients is unparalleled.\n\nThen I had the short ribs on a bed of risotto. Absolutely fabulous. The meat just falls off the bone. And for dessert I had the tartuffo. I need my food gluten free so I have just the top part of the tartuffo (so no cake). It tastes great. It's gelato with a chocolate sauce.\n\nI should mention all the dishes I named here are specials. Special means it is not available all the time. This is another reason why I never tire of eating here. We ordered a crostini with salmon appetizer that the waiter pointed out being delivered to the next table - only for him to return and say they were out of salmon. The burrata on arugula was ok, it was accompanied with a few limp strips of bell pepper. The charcuterie board was ok, the two veal dishes were deemed again, just ok, my filet mignon was way over sauced, disguising the flavor of the filet and the pasta dish was not very flavorful. Terrible service. Honestly the worst service we have ever experienced in a restaurant. Dinner took 2 1/2 hours! The only employee who seemed worried about the lack of service was the hostess who was seating people, pouring water, taking drink orders, bussing tables…everyone else was casually walking around with their heads in the clouds apparently.

The physical restaurant was great! They were behind to get us seated for the reservation but it wasn’t a huge deal. We got the calamari (delicious) and two pasta dishes. The portions are quite small for the price. I wish there was more to the dishes but they had decent flavor.

First time trying this place. Seated at a table with a (cold air) draft when the front door was opened and asked to be moved but was told that there were no other tables available (even though there were). Just my preference. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

We decided to venture down to Little Italy after many, many years, and after some research decided on La Tavola. It was a disappointment. Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, (a 6 top, a 5 top, our 4 top and a 3 top) the acoustics are so bad that it was difficult to hear the waiter or ourselves. We ordered a crostini with salmon appetizer that the waiter pointed out being delivered to the next table - only for him to return and say they were out of salmon. The burrata on arugula was ok, it was accompanied with a few limp strips of bell pepper. The charcuterie board was ok, the two veal dishes were deemed again, just ok, my filet mignon was way over sauced, disguising the flavor of the filet and the pasta dish was not very flavorful. Nice people - the waiter and host were both personable and friendly, but not a return visit in our future.
