I’ve been eating at Frankie’s for years. Dining here was one of reasons I moved to Brooklyn. Last night I was asked to leave before we finished our bottle of wine because they had reservations coming. It felt a little sad. Times have changed. Once upon a time it was cool. No longer. Don’t linger we have business to do. Turn em and burn em. Your food is still great and I love your olive oil. My olive oil will never ask me to leave the table before I’m finished. Neither would Nonna. Arrivaderci Frankies.

The setting offered stunning views of NYC, blending coziness with elegance. The menu featured classic dishes made with care, complemented by specials. Cocktails were expertly crafted, balanced in flavor. A tasting of appetizers, entrees, and desserts impressed, with highlights including strip steak, salmon with succotash, pork chop with figs, and lasagna. Desserts, especially the unique green tea crème brûlée and tiramisu with espresso gelato, were memorable. Service was attentive and enthusiastic, making for a fantastic overall experience.

We had a really nice time at the piano bar, the Christmas decor was beautiful and went so well with the existing decor, its like stepping back in time to another era. Kudos to whoever hung the garland on the outside columns, so symmetrical and well done, a grand holiday entrance providing a warm festive welcome! The second pianist we heard that evening was absolutely wonderful, he played beautifully and he sang with a light heart. He interacted with the crowd in a non intrusive way that enabled the diners not only to enjoy their food but to make casual musical requests and really enjoy the music as well. I could see that he was reading the room and playing more of the style he saw folks enjoying. I especially loved his riff that gently melded into a beautiful rendition of Let it snow, it made the cold December night sparkle with joy!

It’s always a pleasure to dine at the River Cafe. It’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion!! We had the privilege to be seated in the area served by the excellent captain Bernie. He is friendly, attentive, and professional!!

We enjoyed a wide variety of foods, starting with the spicy edamame with Peruvian corn which was outstanding. The snapper with the chimichurri sauce was a special and was outstanding. We did the sashimi and sushi plates and added on some rolls. We also had the miso black cod, which we would highly recommend.
