Chef John LaPosta has had a long and exciting career path which has landed him in the restaurant of his dreams. Along with his partner, Tina Kruger, he has created a wonderful American Gastropub full of great energy, fine hospitality, and of course, outstanding food.It is his passion for excellence, beaming hospitality and tireless work that have been the hallmarks of John's 30+ years as one of the Capital Region’s most popular chefs. He is known for his outstanding food that he serves to "real" people in a fun and unassuming style. His simple philosophy has always been "put the love on plate." In doing this, people feel comfortable when reading his menus and do not feel as if they need to be a chef themselves to understand it. Inspired food and service in an unassuming manner with outstanding hospitality!

1909 is a lovely, high-end restaurant, certainly the best in and around Cooperstown, with an expectedly high price. We have dined there many times, and have become accustomed to near-perfection overall; we have never been disappointed. This particular time though, our dining ended with a panna cotta dessert that was an assemblage of bits that did not seem to form a coherent whole, including a bit that seemed like fruit leather that was so tough as to be inedible. The maître-d recognized that -- apparently we were not the first ones to order that dessert that evening, and he offered us the same part of the dessert that was supposed to be "crisper". It really wasn't, and it would have been better to start over for a dessert without that bit, but it was not offered. Still, the appetizer and main course outshone the odd dessert.

This was a delicious find! Thought I was going for the brunch menu but ended up being lunch, we were not disappointed. The soup of the day was amazing… garlic and parsnip puree, YUM. Filet sandwich w truffle fries were delish, my friend had goat cheese w apple and onion jam grilled cheese w butternut squash soup… also delish. Espresso martini was the perfect way to cap off a festive holiday get together. We will be back! Thank you for being fresh delicious food to Albany. We need more restaurants like this!

Lovely table by the window. Great service! I had The Local which was fried chicken and cheese grits. A huge portion of chicken. I think it was a whole half of a chicken. Crispy, crunchy crust and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The grits were delicious but I wish there had been more grits, less chicken. This dish could use a fresh element. Slaw or salad? Others in the group had the tofu dish. The potato samosas with salad. The soup of the day. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. We had cocktails, which were delicious but a bit overpriced. We ordered the multi layer chocolate cake. It was huge! Delicious! And the cheesecake which was also tasty. The bread basket that comes before the meal was excellent! We did mention numerous times that we were celebrating a birthday but no one on staff did anything special to acknowledge it. We enjoyed our dinner and will be back!

We really enjoyed our meals at Canal Side Inn. The food was excellent! Could not have been better. From interesting and fresh soup and salad choices, to well prepared and presented main courses and desserts, everything was great. The atmosphere is like taking a step back in time, with wood paneling and even a full phone booth outside the bar area. The music, tunes I remembered hearing at my grandparent's house, complemented the environment nicely. Tables were beautifully set and the service pleasant and attentive. The only thing that was a slight negative, and due to the age and location of the space, was a musty smell initially upon entering. A little bit like a grandparent's house, too! :) In no way did that impact the overall experience for us, and we will definitely be back.
