Campisi's Downtown is owned and operated by David Campisi and his family. The restaurant has a long and storied history, beginning in 1946 when David's great-grandfather bought a bar with a small kitchen and began making pizzas - the first ever in Dallas. In 1852, Matthew Perry, father of the USA Steam Navy, was assigned a diplomatic mission by American President Millard Fillmore to open Japanese ports to the west trade. The Admiral sailed four steam ships from Norfolk, Virginia to Japan. Along that trip the salt water stained the metal ships black. At that time, the Japanese had never seen such machines and referred to them as the “black ships”. This is where we take our name. Perry didn’t just open up Japan but all of Asia. This fateful meeting of the East and West cultures plays out in our menu.

    I recently celebrated my birthday dinner at Bob's as I do every year, and it was an incredible experience! The ambiance was perfect for my special occasion, and the staff went above and beyond to make the evening memorable. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, just as I like it. Every dish we ordered was delicious, and the service was impeccable.

    So our reservation was at 9 and we got there before 9 and got seated at 930. No complaints as there is an observatory area you can sit and wait at. They get a bit busy, and because it's such a great vibe a few people tend to linger at their table a lot longer than expected. Service was great, and the food was fantastic. This is our second time going and plan to go back again soon

    Went with work colleagues and had a fantastic time. Jose, our server, was phenomenal; paid close attention to dietary restrictions and made wonderful recommendations. Shared the honey and mushroom pizzas and didn’t have a slice left. The pasta entrees were fresh and delicious. Jose’s wine recommendations were spot on. And a sampling of each dessert was shared and enjoyed by all. Definitely recommend!
