Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast.     Giovanni's is one of our favorite's in Nashville but our experience last evening was even better than usual. The calamari & meatballs to start were the perfect starter with THE best marinara sauce. The saffron risotto with scallops was luscious with the perfect amount of saffron. Lasagna & pappardelle pasta is always fantastic and did not disappoint this time. Our server, Kevin, was knowledgable and funny and recommended the perfect wine to go with our meal. I don't know the name of the maitre d but he is excellent at what he does and makes us feel welcome every time we dine there.

    Loved our dinner. Loved our waiter. Ambiance was good but initially placed by the door and there was a definite breeze. However, they moved us promptly and with willingness to please. Loved the staff. Food was excellent and perfectly prepared.

    Great service and free parking in Nashville is a big win. Also Midtown location, a plus for local residents. Dumpling appetiser was delicious. I had an Alsace wine and my friend had a Moscow mule, both great. Sushi was presented beautifully and delicious. Will be going back.

    Excellent place that eat. So much history in the building. Food was outstanding and server attentive. We went to bar first and the bartender was fabulous! Such an excellent personality!!
