Portugal: Land of ExplorersIn the 15th Century, Prince Henry the navigator ordered his explorers to bring back to Portugal any exotic fruits, nuts and plants from the new lands. Tomatoes and potatoes are taken to Europe, Brazilian pineapples were introduced to Azores, Brazilian chili peppers grew in Angola, African coffee was transplanted to Brazil.Today the Portuguese fondness for ingredients like cinnamon or curry powder, is also a legacy of his time. The Romans brought wheat and introduced onion, garlic, olives and grapes. Later the Moors were the first to plant rice and introduced figs, planted groves of lemons, oranges and almond trees. Portugal is a seafaring nation with a well-developed fishing industry trading cod since the 15th century.Today, naturally, Portuguese cuisine varies from region to region , but fresh fish and shellfish are found on virtually every menu. Fabulous holiday brunch. Packed but seamless, efficient, and warm service. Highlight was a butternut squash toast, but everything was delicious. We were the clean plate club. The desserts, especially that apple crisp, were fantastic.

The Brussels Caesar salad is always a hit. We paired it with a citrus tuna appetizer that was so bright and fresh. The citrus really let the flavor of the tuna shine. For our meals we did the octopus ragu and a special that was spinach pasta with a spinach cream sauce topped with bread crumbs and parm, both were outstanding and the special should be on the menu regularly it was so good. We finished with a dark chocolate pot de creme and sticky toffee pudding, both were the perfect ending to a delightful meal

Love the location of the restaurantOur waitress was McKenzie, she was very attentive and courtesy. She provided great service. The food is always the best, however, the asparagus was a little soggy and very small this time. We have been to Rooney’s several times and never seem to get a table near the windows where the boardwalk is. Not sure why is it difficult to get a table there. I still highly recommend Rooney.

We celebrated our anniversary at The Squire, and it was an exceptional experience. The ambiance was cozy and festive, with beautiful Christmas decorations that added a magical touch to the evening. We enjoyed the appetizers and cocktails; as a main course, the filet mignon and prime rib, both were superb. The filet mignon was tender and full of flavor, while the prime rib was perfectly seasoned and juicy. And to close the dessert with the anniversary touch was incredible. The service was outstanding. Our waiter Cory was attentive and friendly, ensuring we had everything we needed to make our evening special. Overall, The Branches provided a memorable dining experience that made our anniversary celebration truly special. Highly recommended for any special occasion, especially during the holiday season.
