   Las Palomas is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Austin area. It is authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex. My wife loves the fajitas, and the molé sauce used on the enchiladas is outstanding. Olé!

   We are weekly regulars. Last night there were an unusually large number on small children in the restaurant which were unwatched by parents sitting at separate tables. The kids got bored, started milling about, going outside and back in. It was noisy and hard to enjoy the music. We come at 6:45 pm hoping to miss this crowd but they were there last night. We wish the hostesses would seat these big noisy groups into other rooms in the restaurant on nights when the band plays. I know that the guys in the band would like that as well. We have talked about this. They don’t understand that there some there who actually want to hear the music and not some yuppies’s kids trying to talk over the music.

   Always fabulous food, fun ambiance and wonderful service! Very friendly staff and attentive care! The jazz on Saturday night was fantastic! Love the Mexican martinis!

   28 years ago we had our 2nd date here. We've returned infrequently over the years since it's no longer in our hood. For nostalgia's sake we reserved a Valentine's evening Prix Fixe dinner. The servers were cordial and pretty efficient given the growing crowd. We both ordered the Poblano soup which was excellent and lovely to behold. The ceviche turned out to be a solid choice with redfish & a good spice level. For the main, my husband ordered the Palomas combo. We recalled the wonderful poblano mole sauce from prior visits and had to try it again. The shredded chicken filling was really nicely seasoned, but the mole was scarcely present--leaving the enchilada slightly dry The verde enchilada was fine. The outstanding element of the plate turned out to be the cochinito pibil accompanied by a nice rice but unremarkable beans. I ordered the steak chimichurri w/ shrimp. The butterfly shrimp stood out from the ordinary clearly marinated with chimichurri--five stars! However the steak ordered medium rare came well done. Regrettably we sent it back, not something we enjoy doing particularly on a busy day. Back it went replaced by a thicker steak --entirely too raw for my taste--the meat came seared on each side the rest quite raw and chewy. Seeing me cut it, the server asked if she should return it again. We opted not to & I gave it to my husband who enjoys rarer cuts of beef. For dessert the man ordered the Tres Leches cake, acceptable but a bit grainy. I opted for sopapilla topped with ice cream. It tasted much like a glazed doughnut which maybe not traditional, but I liked a great deal. We added coffee and a couple of alcoholic drinks. The room had filled up and was quite loud at this point so the waitress got the drink order wrong--not a big deal. Overall it was okay but not the greatest experience for a final bill of nearly $200. We may return at some point, since it is nostalgic to us, but we will choose a normal day the next time.
