We have been to Edinburgh on several occasions but tried to avoid eating at restaurants on the Royal Mile as they are perceived as too touristic. So we were very pleasantly surprised when we tried Angels with Bagpipes as the food was excellent and staff very friendly.

Amazing food. I had the Veloute of Jerusalem artichoke with a poach hen's egg and I was in heaven, mellow artichoke taste, not too over powering and the mix with the egg was perfect. The main coarse was the fillet steak and is the best fillet steak I have ever eaten. I guess the only gripe is that on some of the main coarses you will have to order extra sides so the cost increases. I had French beans with my steak and they were lovely but the potatoes were dry and some of the food was not piping hot, it came out to us warm but I would still highly recommend it to everyone. Oh yes, the service from everyone was absolutely first class and there is only a 7.5% service charge whereas other places I have been to charge 12 or 12.5%.

I booked this venue for a pre Birthday/Christmas lunch for 2 of my girlfriends, one of whom was going to be celebrating her birthday in Dec. I arrived early and was shown to the table and waited for them to arrive. The young lady who served our table was very friendly and helpful when choosing what to eat. Somehow in all of our time in Leeds we had never been to Kendells before despite lots of positivity from friends who had , we`d never quite made it. What a fabulous place. The food was wonderful and the service even better. I don't know the name of our waitress but she was outstanding. The style and design of the place is exceptional and I loved the location next to the the water. I honestly don't think there is is anything that could be improved. Small boutique style restaurant, the decor and lighting is lovely. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. Friendly chat and great advice about the wine. We had a Fixed Pice lunchtime slot but were not rushed at all, presumably our table wasn’t needed early evening because we were left to leave at a time of our choosing. The food was delicious, with first class presentation. Would highly recommend to family and friends, and we will definitely be back 👍
