Take a stroll down Monmouth Street, London and you'll discover a little piece of England that will remain forever French. Mon Plaisir, London's oldest Family run French Restaurant, has been a purveyor of the finest French cuisine for over half a century. The entente cordial hits you as you enter, and the French atmosphere is as thick as the waiters French accents. You'll find yourself surround by wonderfully original French artefacts, you could find yourself leaning against the pewter topped bar which once graced the lounge of a Lyonnais brothel.

Business lunch. Restaurant was not busy but it still felt very 'intimate' (note: only half the restaurant was open due to low number of diners) Food was very good, onion soup was on point, pork in cream and mushroom sauce was delicious and a huge portion. My colleague had the goats cheese/beetroot salad served with no beetroot! This was quickly and apologetically rectified. Her sea bream was good but a small portion size compared to my pork loin. The french peas with bacon and cream took me back to my days in Paris!! Service was good. Importantly, nobody rushed us to vacate the table ( a modern dining curse) and interestingly the bill was presented with NO automatic service charge (again refreshing!!). If you love all things French this is a good place to eat and if you've the time, an aperitif at Le Beaujolais in Litchfield Street ( 5 mins walk away) we complete your Francophile urges.

We booked for a pre-theatre dinner 2 or 3 courses. The menu choice was good value however as a gluten free person there were no options on the dessert and I had to negotiate to be able to have an alternative dessert. I did check the menu beforehand and notified the restaurant i was GF so it was a shame and slightly awkward for all the table that I had to have these discussions. The restaurant is charming in a traditional french way but a little tired looking and it would have been nice if they’d played some background music for atmosphere. The service was good but a little slow getting out of the restaurant on time for our show.

In the heart of the West End Mon Plaisir has maintained its neighbourhood restaurant feel and excellent food for decades. Three generations of my family have been regular visitors and it is still a special but unpretentious treat. Thank you.

This place is a gem, as close as you get to a parisian bistro. The service is very good, the staff are all lovely, it has a good atmosphere that still allows for conversation. The food is superb - the french onion soup excellent! Never disappoints!

Mon Plaisir is an adorable, unpretentious, perfectly-located, home-style restaurant, serving the traditional French classics like beef tartare, French onion soup, escargots, and coq au vin, moules marnieres, etc. It’s a much better value than many of the other restaurants in close proximity. The perfect stop, especially if you sneak in around 8pm after the pre-theater crowds have dispersed. We’ve been twice in three weeks since our first visit and will be making a return trip soon!

My review is based on the experience across London and comparing value for money vs food. The food was decent and the service was good with little quibble when we sent the steaks back as they were cold. The atmosphere resembles a small French Bistro, the staff were mostly attentive but they were not looking our way most of the evening and we needed to get their attention. The overall score was based on the cost £240 for 5 mains two starters and a bottle of the house wine, which I felt was too much given the food proportions. I think perhaps 30-40% overvalues on costings.
