One might not associate Minot ND with eclectic cuisine, but one should. The fourth largest city in North Dakota features various types of cuisine, but it leans American. Perhaps because the city is not a tourist hub, its restaurants need to appeal to the locals in order to prosper. Hearty food like hot beef sandwiches, thick soups, and fries with meatballs and Parmesan fill the menus here. More adventurous fare can be found in its newer restaurants with creative entrees such as a chicken roulade served with a smoked Gouda cream sauce and bread crumbs. Brewpubs also abound and serve the expected pub chow. For dessert, regional fare includes kuchen, a German-derived pastry with a sweet filling, which appears almost everywhere.
