One if by Land, Two if by Sea has been recognized for its classic menu, long history, and beautiful decor. It is often cited as the most romantic restaurant in New York City.

The decor features candlelit tables, brick fireplaces, a baby grand piano and a private garden. The restaurant operates inside a historic, land-marked carriage house built in 1767.

Established in 1973, One if by Land, Two if by Sea soon became the go to spot in NYC for engagements, anniversaries, weddings and just a night out for quiet dinner.

We come here a couple times a year as we were married here and enjoy every time we come back. Great service and they go above and beyond to make your dinning experience a great one.

Best dinner I've ever had. Food and drinks were excellent but the service, ambiance and amazing historical significance of the building make it a next level experience. Arguably the best service I've had at a restaurant ever. Can't recommend one if by land, two if by sea enough

Server very unprofessional giving the wine list to me and not my husband. A first. Next Man came to table. We asked if he was the sommelier. He said he was the sommelier and the general manager, and the maitre ‘d. My husband asked him to please taste the wine as most sommeliers would. His response was “I can’t do that“. We both asked him why simultaneously. He said that he’s not allowed to share glasses. We both told him get another glass. That was one of the stupidest comments we had ever heard. The amouse bouche was inedible. We couldn’t figure out what it was. My husband had lobster bisque. FAIR. And an additional $40 in addition to $155 pp prix fixed dinner. My octopus was rubber. His escargot was bland and boring. My lamb chops were indescribable. I was unable to cut them. I sent them back. We ended up with two beef Wellington which was OK. The desserts all tasted like chalk. We ordered a soufflé when we sat down and when we finished our dinner, we had to wait an additional 25 minutes for the soufflé which had been ordered two hours before. It tasted like My-T fine chocolate pudding from 40 years ago. All in all the night was a zero. Now I know why we haven’t been back in 25 years.

We have been coming to One of by Land for over 14 years and it has consistently been an incredible experience. The hardest part is deciding which item to order off the menu since there are so many excellent options. The cocktails are always fabulous too. We can’t wait to return again next December.

Easily the most consistently romantic place to celebrate a special occasion. Have dined here since 1989 - and planning to keep the annual tradition going for another 35 years!
