We’re native NYers and haven’t visited this dear old friend in too long. Brilliant service, breathtaking romantic lush atmosphere (a young man went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend when we were there) and that makes the check worth it. It’s des Artistes crossed w the Russian Tea Room 30 years ago. Go here, the food isn’t special and it’s expensive but if you can do it, DEFINITELY do it.

The service shined. The entire staff was friendly and amazing. The food was delicious. We had the Beef Wellington for our main course and it was perfect. The only small complaint I had over with the food is that the focaccia had no flavor except the sea salt on top. Everything else we had was delicious!

I have been going to this beautiful restaurant for 20+years. Last night was late reservation at 8:45pm. Everything rushed, seven course meal not available and overall disappointing. They should not take 8:45 reservation if the kitchen is about to close. My first less than stellar experience ai OIBLTIBS and I will go back hoping it's better. Recommend not to make any reservations that are less than 2 hours from closing time.

Food was mediocre at best, which is unfortunate as the service and ambiance were fantastic.

I rarely leave reviews as I know so many people say that, but I just can’t skip this one. I don’t know how this place stays in business. Either people have no idea what good food is, or those who go here are just rich and reckless and don’t mind shelling out $155/per person plus alcohol for a diner quality meal and service. There are a million restaurants in NYC for a quarter of the prices that are exponentially better in near every way. I picked this restaurant for my partner’s birthday after (apparently not so) careful consideration and its world renown reputation. Boy, was this one of the worst calls I ever made. Everything from the socially awkward greeting with poor customer service etiquette from the hostesses, to the luke warm tasteless food and extremely amateur service we received, this place is a complete rip off. Not to mention that on our reservation I requested to sit in the main dining area in an attempt to hear the piano and see the Christmas tree, and they sat us upstairs. Nevertheless, it was still a nice ambiance upstairs, but that’s about it and that’s not the point. You can have a lovely ambiance at plenty other restaurants with a much, much smaller price tag. We were not in a rush and still had to flag down the server several times throughout the night for water refills, etc., and we were never asked how anything that we drank or ate was until the very end when they gave us our check. Save your money, don’t waste your time or appetite coming here. Believe the poor reviews and go to literally ANY other restaurant for a more satisfying experience. So disappointing. Thanks for making this a terribly memorable birthday for my partner and I, One if by Land, Two if by Sea.

Food was outstanding and great atmosphere. Downstairs can be loud because of bar area- request upstairs if trying for a more romantic dinner.
