Cafe Momentum is a non-profit restaurant that serves as a paid post-release internship for juvenile offenders. Youth are released from detention into the sheltered environment of Café Momentum’s post-release program. Café Momentum’s program teaches critical skills that allow youth to re-enter society in a safe, real-world environment of nurturing accountability. By participating in our program, at-risk young people rotate through every aspect of the restaurant from waiting tables to washing dishes, while working side-by-side with established chefs. The paid internship gives them the opportunity to exercise and practice their new skills while continuing to develop leadership, social, and vocational skills for as long as they choose to maintain involvement with Café Momentum.     The Valentine's 3-course meal was truly a delight. The Wagyu beef tart was a wonderful combination of flavors, and the Lobster bisque was a comforting, smooth treat for our first course. For the second course, the NY Stripe steak with peppercorn gravy was so satisfying and rich. For dessert, Hubs was completely enchanted by the chocolate mousse, bursting with chocolate goodness, while the Strawberry cream cake evoked such sweet memories, showcasing the most exquisite strawberry flavor. Our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive, always ensuring we had everything we needed, and the gentleman serving water was extremely thoughtful, refilling our drinks before we even had a chance to ask. It was a truly memorable experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it—10 out of 10!

    Went for Valentines Dinner. Ambience is 5 stars. The staff are friendly and nice. The service was a little shaky with the servers or food runners forgetting or misplacing food orders. The appetizers and entree were ok, it was a pre fixe menu in anticipation of the high volume so that’s probably why it lacked that extra special touch. The fillet minon was cooked to perfection and came with broccolini and mushrooms. The dessert was disappointing, we ordered the tiramisu which was served late, but on a chocolate base but totally frozen inside. They had us try another lemon dessert and another strawberry one but they were all not convincing. I would love to give it another try when they are not as busy and order other items, but I’d give this experience a 3.8/5

    Excellent food and atmosphere. Knowing that young people were being helped made it better. The only criticism I would offer was that the waiters were very shy teenagers (which is quite normal and understandable). The mentors might consider teaching the teenage waiters to let their positive personalities shine through — to come out of their shells and be a bit more lively and smiley. I know becoming sure of your own voice comes with time and experience, so it’s all good!
