A large selection of wines, cocktails and beers make MUA a great spot for an evening out with friends. Family owned and run Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in what was then Auto Row in Oakland, in 2008. After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland. Really wonderful place and meal for a post Valentine's celebration. We tried several small plates; crab beignets, deviled eggs, the mezzo platter and a beet & kale salad. Each was very well prepared. Our final dish was the dungeness crab pasta. It had a nice flavor but it didn't have much crab in it. Also we each had a Jack Frost cocktail, with and without alcohol and both were delicious.. We'll definitely go back again!

adequate number of choices for starter and main courses. Service was good. The environment is lovely -- Julia Morgan architecture building, high ceilings, noise was well controlled even though the dining room was full.

Go for the pizza! We went for Valentine's Day and had such a lovely time! Forever we ordered a $45 lobster pasta cacherri. It had 10 tube's of pasta and maybe 2 ounces of lobster. It was pretty Blanc and quite frankly, a rip off. It was also the only bad thing we had so we were still pretty pleased.

Who knew Oakland goes off like this? Incredible open space in what I assume is a converted warehouse. I sat upstairs, overlooking the main dining area, which was perfect. Really diverse crowd, fantastic set list by the DJ, great overall energy. Shared the Caesar salad to start, which frankly could have been half the size (it was two full romaine hearts) and the 1lb Ribeye with fries. Finished with the bread pudding. That was more than enough. Great service. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added, which I was fine with, but just beware so you don't double-tip.

Excellent dining experience in all respects! Server seemed overwhelmed and was perhaps given too many tables to take care of. Other wait staff gladly pitched in to help
