It is operated by the couple, Chef Juan Lopez Luna et sommelier and wine importer Lindsay Brennan. Alma offers a tasting menu experience (5 or 9 courses) inspired by the concept of "mar y montana", largely influenced by Chef Juan's childhood memories of central Mexico as well as the couple's time spent on the coastal region of Oaxaca. Lopez is one of the few chefs in Canada working with heritage corn from Mexico, making fresh masa in-house each morning and tortillas by hand with his grandmother's traditional tortilla press. The wine list specializes in sunshine-filled Catalan wines from a unique group of winemaker-friends from the Barcelona region. Incredible experience eating there for the 4th time in my life! The ambience is very cozy and intimate and you feel as if you're eating in someone's home. The food reflects this ambience and on top of tasting amazing (ingredients are very fresh and prepared expertly) it all just feels like a home-cooked meal made with love. Chef Davide sang twice during our dinner and he is truly a master of his craft on top of being a fantastic chef. He even came to see us at the end of our meal to ask us how we enjoyed the service and how happy he was that I had come to their restaurant multiple times due to it being so good! Class act. I recommend this restaurant to everyone in Montreal looking for an intimate italian meal that doesn't in any way break the bank. Pricing is extremely fair and I usually tip extra because I feel that I am undercutting them!

Top resto in Canada I was told. It didnt disappoint. A very unique experience and every bite was delightful. The staff was attentive and guessed our groups nuances perfectly, pairing wine to the personalities and even upsizing a portion of a dish she knew we would love on order. The pink salad was impressive. It isnt cheap, yet I feel it was worth the splirge and will try to come back.

I come to Pichai whenever I have friends or family visiting from out of town, and it's always a hit! The whole arctic char is always the star of the evening, and the staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and good humoured. I always look forward to my next meal with Pichai!

The experience was fantastic! The food was original and elevated. We had a nice sampling of meat, poultry, fish and veggies. The service was at a good pace with the staff asking us if we were ready to move on as we were dining. The staff was fantastic and knowledgeable about their menu and the history of the restaurant itself. It was a great evening and we will be going back?
