We just had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner at Sushi Kuni. We are regular patrons of this amazing restaurant which is fortunately 3 minutes from our house m. It’s the best sushi place in Metro. Starting with the warm welcome Japanese-style greeting, Kuni has a wonderful vibe that includes service, layout, drinks, and food. The restaurant is divided into four sections that flow together but provide intimacy in each one. There are two bar areas, booths near the entrance, a small dining room with tables, and a booth area in back. These booths are open to the side but have Japanese-style partitions front and back. You can see other patrons but it feels private as well. We choose the excellent craft cocktails but there are sake flights and drinks, and wine/beer. We like the fact that the excellent sushi is complemented by lovely appetizers like eggplant in fish broth and potato croquettes. We have always chosen sushi as an entree but this time had the exquisite black cod in a savory sauce with rice on the side. And the charming Valentine’s Day special dessert with a cake/cookie base and chestnut paste filling, and a candied chestnut on top. For Valentine’s Day there were small pink neon lights that spelled “love.” Service is always impeccable, prompt, and friendly despite the fact that the restaurant was full for the event. The whole vibe on the occasion felt festive and full of happy couples. But it’s always a pleasure to eat at Kuni Sushi. Price is great for the exquisite quality of the food. With our two cocktails, two delicious and generous appetizers, silky savory sliced black cod with side of rice, and darling dessert, our bill came to $84 before tip. - RRoslynnSacramento / Sacramento Valley •64 reviews5.0Dined 5 days agoCame to Oregon on a business trip and this place was recommended to have dinner at. I’m so thrilled we did, everything was exceptional! We were running late and gave them a call to give them a heads up, they were happy to accommodate us as well as appreciated us calling ahead to make them aware. You’re than greater by a host who takes you to your table and welcomed by someone who checks your coat in. This restaurant works as a team, someone who takes your order, another who removes empty plates, and someone who fills your drinks as well as serves your food. Our server was very detailed and explained everything so well! We had a hard time deciding since we wanted to try everything lol. She broke it down for us, gave us time to decide came over and took our order. She then has a well orchestrated way of when items will come to the table. This was genius so you don’t get anything so heavy that it prevents you from trying the other items you wanted to try. This is a share group dining experience. How I rate the dishes we enjoyed Spicy wok Edamame 4/5- not spicy but very flavorful just a lot of liquid in the bowl. Edamame 5/5-cooked perfectly Mushroom Bao Buns 5+/5 OMG this was definitely a favorite I could just eat those for the entire meal. Just a delightful pocket of awesome to enjoy. Pork belly Bao Buns-5/5 I didn’t get a chance to try this one but the other two people really raved about it Bone Marrow 3/5 I feel like it was just missing something and I’m not sure what that was which is why I rated it like so. Toro Nigiri 5+/5 so buttery and delicious! Who would’ve thought something so small could be soooo delicious! Wagyu Fried Rice 4/5 good but trying it once would be enough for me to where I wouldn’t order it again after had trying it. Bulgogi Sujebi 3/5 way too sweet! Dubai to Janken 5/5 don’t think about this one, have to get it! Bingsu-5/5 great for sharing, was worried it would be super sweet but was PERFECT!
