The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s. Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. Came for Valentine’s Day, our resy was for 9:15pm and we arrived at 8:30pm but we got seated in less than 5 minutes which was nice. The best thing we did was order multiple appetizers rather than 2 main entrees. It was nice to sample the menu and the food was AMAZING. (the drinks too!)

It’s our first time at this place, even though we’ve been seeing it for over two decades. In short, we were quite pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food, as it was light but very flavorful - not as salty as we thought we’d get from almost any Italian restaurant we’ve been to, some of which are very good in their own right. However, this lightness in taste stood out, be it the prosciutto in the salad or the clams in pasta. We’ll come back for sure.

Used to come here when we lived locally. What a treat to be back. Food was delicious- had the angel hair Mediterranean and linguine with white clam sauce. Very large portion for lunch. Service was attentive. Love it.
