Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. Met up with a longtime friend for a long overdue lunch. We chose The Refectory since it was mid way between our two homes. This was the first time each of had dined there and the experience was very enjoyable. Food, service, and atmosphere were all great. Definitely a return visit will be in the works.

I go to the Brick and Brew at least once a month. The service especially Antonio is excellent! However since my last visit the drinks have more ice than water ice, and the food is less than average. Use to love the Brick and Brew no so much anymore. Must point out that the service is excellent!
